DESIDERATA {Latin, for things desired} by Max Ehrmann

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others,
even to the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are
vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble, it's a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself.
Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have the right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive him to be. And whatever yourl abors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

The Healing Power of Real Moments

Most people while consciously thinking and functioning are doing so in an almost autopilot mind-set, playing over old thought patterns that are automatically triggered to respond under certain conditions. This way of conscious functioning is without awareness. This is an awake state that is conscious, but without authentic mental cognizant activity. Being fully present and aware in our thinking and feeling is the origin and foundation of real moments. When we cease all the mental action that is governed by the intellectual automation, we slow down and become genuine with others and ourselves. In this genuine state of being we become more acute in our ability to sense, understand, and express. This state of genuine being enables us to set in mind any intention unobstructed. In real moments we feel more deeply and we hear more clearly. This genuine state of real moments is the optimum place to navigate through life, because we are closer to our Source. In order to work from this ideal state of mind we must give up our need to be quick-witted in our responses. This quick wit springs from ego and a need to come across as intellectually agile and ready- often times working from the automated response system derived from preconceived notions and beliefs. When we respond too quickly we risk proceeding from ego-based actions and skip genuine consideration of any given situation.

The value of real moments is the payoff, the experience in life that unfolds more perfectly. The experience that bares the highest quality of exchange between God as you, and God as everything else, for God is all there is. When we place more value in our experiences and set forth in earnest effort to be real with others and ourselves, we start by reflecting, not by projecting. We go within ourselves and sense what there is to sense and we listen to our inner voice that speaks unfailing truth. Living a life filled with real moments is a life replete with synchronized miracles.

Through examination of our feeling responses we can recognize patterns of causation. With a deep desire to improve our lives we can become motivated to follow the guidance that leads from within. We can stop the automatic lifestyle and step into the realm of real moments. In real moments life is changed at its core, hence, the healing power of real moments.

Healing Into Health

The human body is the product of the mind. Whether it is healthy or less than healthy it is a result of our state of mind. All of our thoughts and emotions are the triggers for chemicals released into the body through neuro-transmitter. We practice brain chemistry with our thoughts. When our minds are dominated with happy thoughts, we produce positive physical results. conversely, when we entertain negative thoughts such as anger, depression, fear, or jealousy, we are secreting those chemicals that bring about the physical repercussions known as illness. That is not to say that every negative thought or emotion will bring about illness. It is the prolonged state of mind that continually feeds the body chemicals that introduce ill health. To illustrate how thoughts influence our well being, let's look at the placebo effect:, thoughts alone determine the outcome of an illness. The patient believes that he/she has been given a healing medication, and a healing is the result. The placebo induced the body's own healing mechanism by accepting the thought that, "I am now being made well." Of course, the weaker the thought, the weaker the cure. The placebo is really a thought in pill form.

The mind is not the only place where intelligence is found. There is an intelligence found at the cellular and atomic levels. It is an exchange of energy as information. For instance, when the body is injured it knows exactly how to create a scab, or if tissue has been torn away the body knows how to granulate in new tissue. This is not done on a conscious level, but it is an intelligent exchange within the body at the subatomic level. The body is the most efficient pharmacy known to medicine. It secretes just the perfect amount of what is needed in any given situation. When a body is stressed or frightened, there is the rapid heartbeat, and a rise in blood pressure. One does not have to think consciously for this chemical response to take place.

In the Science of Mind teachings, this subatomic intelligence is the Divine within all life. The Divine responds to our minds, as our minds are not individual, but individualized from the One Mind. "It is done unto you as you believe.....", and "Let the mind that was in Christ be also in you"

From the standpoint of the Practitioner, healing into health is not changing a condition, but adjusting back into knowing the Divinity of all, and accepting It as the Truth of all that Is. We know how health gets to be the way it is, either healthy or unhealthy. The Practitioner looks past the condition and sees the wholeness of every person, or situation. There is a clear acceptance of the Divine, and of the authority that is the birth right of every human being to exercise. When someone is unable to know that for themselves, it is known for them by a trained mind, and the focus remains until there is the desired corresponding out-picturing as a result. Based on Science of Mind principles, what is known in one mind, is available in all minds. Truth seeks its own level, much like water seeks its own level, naturally and perfectly.

Health is determined and maintained in mind. A clear, and happy mental household will be reflected in the body. Emotions serve as guideposts, they tell us how we feel about everything. We can use them to determine if we are being, doing, and having those experiences which are pleasing, or not. When we pay attention to our state of well being, we will be paying attention to our feeling response, and use them to either redirect what we are doing or thinking, or if we are in a place of contentment and well being, we can continue on in the direction we are going.

When we have a natural response of anger, or a knee jerk reaction in fear, which happens to everyone, it is wise to stay with it until it is resolved. Ignoring something that has triggered a negative response in you will only come up again until it is taken through to resolution, or manifests itself as a distressful symptom of some sort. When something resurfaces that has been originally repressed, it is likely to become displaced hostility, or an upset bowel, and become difficult to identify the original cause.

As people begin to take responsibility for their own good health by means of taking charge of their mental household, dis-ease will disappear.
